The program promises guaranteed admission for students from Fort Wayne Community Schools who graduate with at least a 2.0 GPA. Some students may qualify for fully paid tuition.
Indiana Institute of Technology has implemented a new program called Promise IT that “promises” guaranteed admission to Indiana Tech for students in Fort Wayne Community Schools. The program will also offer full tuition and fee coverage for students who qualify for full Pell grant and Indiana state college aid.
According to an article on Indiana Tech’s website, Dr. Karl Einolf, who is Indiana Tech’s president, was quoted as saying of the new program, “All of us at Indiana Tech are extremely proud to partner with Fort Wayne Community Schools on the Promise IT program. Making education more affordable, accessible, relevant and impactful is central to the mission of each of our organizations. By working together, we will help more students obtain college degrees that will position them, and our region, for greater success in the years ahead. This program is a significant win for students and families, and for our city’s employers and economy.”
The Promise IT program will go into effect at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. In order to take advantage of the program, students attending Fort Wayne Community Schools can apply to Indiana Tech with their transcripts and fill out the FAFSA. If the student has at least a 2.0 GPA, they will be guaranteed acceptance to Indiana Tech. If the student is eligible for a full Pell grant, the student will also be guaranteed to have the entirety of their tuition and fees paid for through a combination of federal funding, state funding, and scholarships from Indiana Tech. Students who don’t qualify for full tuition coverage will be eligible to apply for other scholarships to help offset their tuition costs.
Dr. Mark Daniel, who is the superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools, expressed his excitement for the Promise IT program and what it will mean for his students, saying, “As Fort Wayne Community Schools intensifies its focus on preparing students for life after graduation, the Promise IT program is another wonderful resource for our students. FWCS appreciates the partnership with Indiana Tech to give qualifying FWCS students full tuition, which will help make a college education more attainable for many more students. By graduating potentially debt free, these future employees and entrepreneurs will be able to funnel more of their future earnings directly back into our regional economy.”
