Tusculum University students can receive direct admission to Union University’s College of Pharmacy thanks to partnership

Tusculum University and Union University have forged a partnership that will allow students graduating from Tusculum University the opportunity for direct admission into Union University’s College of Pharmacy.

According to an article on Tusculum University’s website, Dr. Heather Henson-Ramsey, who serves as the dean of Tusculum’s College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics, was quoted as saying of the partnership between the two schools, “We are extremely pleased to partner with the Union University College of Pharmacy so our students can have a seamless transition to this outstanding professional program. The rigor and caliber of our pre-pharmacy program and all of the academics in our Natural Sciences Department make them ideal candidates to advance after graduation. We are grateful to Union University’s College of Pharmacy for creating this pathway for our students.”

Dr. Henson-Ramsey went on to say that she believes the partnership between the universities will also serve as a good match for the students, saying, “Union is a Christian university like Tusculum, and the College of Pharmacy admits a small to moderate number of students into each class. The College of Pharmacy has an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, which is exceptional. I think our TU students will find the program appealing and will feel at home there.”

The agreement increases the efficiency of each university, according to Mike Renfrow, who is the director of pharmacy admissions and recruitment at Union University. He said, “Tusculum students are considered an excellent fit for the Union University College of Pharmacy due to their demonstrated academic excellence, commitment to their studies and alignment with the values of our pharmacy program. The agreement guarantees a pipeline of well-prepared and motivated students from Tusculum, enhancing the overall academic atmosphere and contributing to the success of our pharmacy program.”

The specifics of the agreement lay out how it serves as a pipeline for Tusculum University students to join Union University’s College of Pharmacy. It will serve as a recruitment technique, with Union University’s College of Pharmacy acting as guides for Tusculum University students the moment they begin their studies as freshmen who plan to continue their pharmacy education. The faculty of the College of Pharmacy will help Tusculum students ensure they’re on track to qualify for direct admission, which means students must maintain GPA requirements, complete all prerequisites, and meet ACT requirements.

Tusculum University offers a Pre-Pharmacy concentration within its Chemistry program that will also help students become well-positioned to continue on at the College of Pharmacy at Union University. Students take part in hands-on learning experiences and internships that will strengthen their skills in the field before moving on to the College of Pharmacy.

Both universities are Christian universities that weave Christian values and instruction into its education, and Renfrow says he believes this is one of Tusculum University’s strengths.

He went on to say of the agreement between the two schools, “The direct admit agreement underscores our confidence that Tusculum students possess the qualities needed to excel in our program and contribute positively to the pharmacy profession. We believe that Tusculum students are well-prepared for the challenges of our program both academically and professionally.”
