The City of Crossville donated $100,000 to Roane State Community College to expand the Crossville campus so it can house a new health sciences wing.
Roane State Community College first began its Crossville campus expansion project in 2023, and now, a $100,000 donation from the City of Crossville is helping the school’s plans come to fruition.
According to an article on Roane State Community College’s website, Chris Whaley, the president of Roane State Community College, explained why this expansion project is important to the school, saying, “Growing our campus in Crossville to better accommodate student needs will mean far less travel for those who are having to commute to other campuses for certain classes and labs. Serving these students locally helps us eliminate barriers that might otherwise prevent students from reaching their goals.”
The expansion of the Crossville campus is going to accommodate a new health sciences wing that will house current health sciences students as well as the first cohort of the school’s new nursing program. When construction is complete and the nursing program begins, it will mark the first time Roane State Community College has offered a nursing program.
Among the additions to the campus due to the expansion will be flex labs and flexible classrooms, plus dedicated nursing labs and nursing classrooms.
The Roane State Foundation has been working to bolster the funds available to use to complete the expansion project and furnish the expansion. The Foundation’s Executive Director Scott Niermann said, “We are tremendously thankful to the City of Crossville and its city council for supporting this effort and our students. Working together on projects like this means we are better able to meet the growing healthcare workforce needs in our area.”
The mayor of Crossville, RJ Crawford, explained why it was an easy decision to give Roane State Community College their contribution to the project, saying, “It was an easy decision to partner with Roane State on this new addition. We need more people in the nursing field, and the campus expansion is providing a pathway for more members of our population to pursue this career. We are very excited about what this facility will do to keep local talent local.”
