Central Michigan University joins national program that provides transparent information about education costs

The College Cost Transparency Initiative has 500 member schools across the country and 14 public universities in Michigan are among the participants.

Central Michigan University has joined the national College Cost Transparency Initiative that aims to help students pursuing higher education receive a clearer picture about the financial burdens that will be taken on to attend college.

According to an article on Central Michigan University’s website, Sarah Kasabian-Larson, who serves as the director of scholarships & financial aid, is quoted as saying of the initiative, “Central Michigan University is committed to simplifying the financial aid process for our prospective and current students. By providing clear, transparent offer notifications that outline the breakdown of offered aid, estimated expenses, and glossary of terms, we believe that students will be better equipped to make informed decisions.Taking a step toward this promise, CMU has signed the College Cost Transparency Initiative and works to ensure the financial aid process is simplified and clear.”

The College Transparency Initiative, according to its website, aims to “improve the clarity, accuracy, and understanding of student financial aid offers by producing a set of guiding principles and minimal standards to be used when communicating aid offers.”

In order for a college or university to become a member in The College Transparency Initiative, the institution has to commit to providing total cost of attendance estimates and clear and thorough information about what their financial aid package entails.
