Partnership between Hiram College and Campus Nature RX to introduce students to new ways to embrace the outdoors

Campus Nature RX aims to support physical and mental health of students around the country by partnering with colleges to bring its students outdoors.

Hiram College and Campus Nature RX are partnering up to help the students of Hiram College spend more time outdoors, and subsequently reap the benefits of doing so, including bolstering mental and physical health.

According to an article on Hiram College’s website, Zachary Fox, who serves as Hiram College’s Sustainability Coordinator, is looking forward to what this partnership will do for both students and nature, saying, “The new Campus Nature Rx program at Hiram College adds another tool to support student mental health, in this case utilizing the programs and campus resources that already make Hiram so great. We hope to connect a broader, more diverse range of students to the natural world in a meaningful way. By improving access to the outdoors and encouraging use of the green spaces in our community, we are working towards creating a more resilient student body.”

Campus Nature RX is a network of colleges around the country that aims to help students find opportunities to engage with nature and thereby increase their mental wellness. It was started by a team of college and university members who sought to trade notes on the subject. By joining Campus Nature RX, Hiram College will provide outdoor programming and opportunities for students to explore the outdoors.

According to the Campus Nature RX Network's website, some of the specifics of the outdoor programming via this collaboration may include outdoor workshops, access to green spaces, and even helping students understand and work through their inhibitions when it comes to spending time outside.
