Terra State Community College receives grant from the Ohio Board of Nursing

Nursing programs at Terra State Community College will be expanded after receiving $200,000 from the Nurse Education Grant Program.

Terra State Community College will be expanding its nursing program offerings following receiving a $200,000 Nurse Education Grant from the Ohio Board of Nursing.

According to an article on Terra State Community College’s website, Ann Sergent, who serves as the Dean of Liberal Arts, Business and Allied Health at Terra State Community College, discussed what this means for the future of nursing at the school: “Nursing is a high-demand field right now and there are many excellent opportunities for someone with an RN degree, but taking a full-time nursing course load isn’t realistic for everyone. Our goal is to train more nurses for Ohio, and thanks to the NEGP award we’ll be able to provide more learning opportunities for students from all walks of life.”

Among the plans for the grant money, a part-time evening cohort will be added to course offerings to help accommodate nontraditional students achieve their education goals. Currently, the school offers three types of nursing degrees and offers the options to move on to a four-year university to pursue further education.

Sergent notes that graduates of Terra State Community College’s nursing programs are succeeding in finding jobs in the region including at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital, and Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

The grant from the Ohio Board of Nursing is intended for schools that partner with regional hospitals and clinics. The grant funding is able to be put toward purchasing nursing training equipment or paying instructors.
