The Loch Lomond Cafe opened at Alma College on August 28 and features a Mac’s Grill, a Qdoba, and more for students, faculty, and members of the community
Students, faculty, and staff at Alma College have new options when it comes to dining on campus thanks to the Loch Lomond Cafe, which opened on August 28. Members of the Alma and Gratiot County community are also invited.
Loch Lomond Cafe contains the only Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant in Gratiot County. It also offers Mac’s Grill, which is a diner offering American classics, as well as a convenience store that provides grocery items for college students. The Loch Lomond Cafe is located inside of the newly renovated Greg Hatcher Learning Commons, which is part of the Alma College Library and opened early this year.
In an article posted on Alma College’s website, vice president for student affairs and chief diversity officer, Damon Brown, talked about the new cafe, saying, “Our students, staff and faculty are very excited for the opening of Loch Lomond Cafe and all the fantastic options for on-campus dining that it offers. The opening of Loch Lomond Cafe represents the completion of the Greg Hatcher Learning Commons, which was designed to be a place for students to gather and collaborate, centered on community. We’re looking forward to seeing our campus community, along with members of the public, utilize this new space for many years to come.”
Qdoba is a chain of Mexican-style fast casual restaurants that has over 750 locations operating in the U.S. and Canada. It serves entrees like tacos, nachos, guacamole, quesadillas, and burritos, including vegetarian and vegan options for customers.
“Qdoba is a national brand that many in our community already know and love before they arrive on campus. Bringing that familiar sense of name recognition to Alma College will have a positive impact on campus and beyond. We are grateful to our campus dining partner, Metz Culinary Management, for helping see this project through,” said Brown.
Mac’s Grill serves a range of options such as a variety of burgers, chicken, and salads. It also offers vegetarian options. Prices of meals at both Qdoba and Mac’s Grill tend to range from about $8 to $12.
Alma College held a grand opening celebration at 11am until 1pm on Monday, August 28 that included free samples of food, door prizes, and raffles.
During Alma College’s Fall Semester, Qdoba will be open from 9:30am until 9:30pm during the week and from 1pm until 9:30pm during the weekend. Mac’s Grill will be open during the week from 11am to 9:30pm.
