Andréa Halpin named Dean of Students at Indiana University Kokomo

Indiana University has named Andréa Halpin its new Dean of Students. She previously served as the Director of the Grace Scholars program at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Indiana University Kokomo has a new Dean of Students in Andréa Halpin. She will serve in this role as the main representative and advocate for all students by overseeing the resource navigator, campus diversity, the multicultural center, and student life, and administering the Student Code of Conduct.

In an article posted on Indiana University Kokomo’s website, Halpin talked about how she looks forward to being able to make a positive difference in the lives of the school’s students, saying, “College is a unique time in a student’s life. They’re figuring out life and themselves, learning how to advocate for themselves, and learning about self-identity. When I was in college, I relied on the mentors who made me who I am today or helped me figure out who I was.”

She recently met with student leaders during a visit to the school’s campus, and came away still more excited to help achieve the goals they had presented to her: “I’d love to help re-invigorate student life and develop some leadership training. That was a huge desire I heard. I look forward to working with our students, empowering them to make a difference on campus,” she said.

Before coming to Indiana University Kokomo, Halpin was the director of the Grace Scholars program at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There she worked to develop and implement course curricula for the program that supported limited income and first generation college students. She also served as the assistant director of student engagement for co-curricular involvement at Missouri State University.

The university’s Chancellor Mark Canada was also quoted in the article as congratulating Halpin on her new role, saying, “I’m pleased to welcome Andréa to campus. I believe she will thrive in this role, and I’m looking forward to working with her to take the campus experience to new heights for our students.”

Halpin currently holds a Master of Science in student affairs in higher education, which she earned from Missouri State University, Springfield. She earned her bachelor of science in Biology with a Chemistry minor from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri.
