Somerset Community College’s Automotive Training program receives ASE Training Program Accreditation

After extensive evaluations, the ASE Education Program determined that Somerset Community College’s Automotive Training program was eligible to receive accreditation in Master Automobile Service Technology.

Somerset Community College’s automotive training program has recently received ASE Training Program accreditation by the ASE Education Foundation. The automotive program at Somerset has been accredited in Master Automobile Service Technology, which is the highest level of program accreditation that is recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, or ASE.

The process to receive the accreditation required Somerset’s automotive training program to undergo thorough evaluation by the ASE Education Foundation. The evaluations used nationally accepted standards of excellence in a variety of areas such as equipment, facilities, and instruction.

In an article posted on Somerset Community College’s website, ASE Education Foundation President Michael Coley was quoted about the accreditation, saying, “This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents. Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that SCC’s graduates will be employable entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by Somerset Community College, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the workforce.”

After the evaluations were completed, the ASE Education Foundation determined that Somerset Community College was eligible to be accredited. The ASE Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that accredits and evaluates entry level technician training programs against standards that have been developed by the automotive industry.

Automotive Technology Program Coordinator at Somerset Sy Gammage was also quoted, saying, “During the past few months, we have worked closely with the ASE Education Foundation to make certain that our program would meet strict industry standards, and now we are pleased to continue our ranks of the ASE accredited training programs. Students will be assured of a quality education, and shop owners will be assured of getting quality job applicants.”
