Ball State University’s Ball State Public Media awarded arts programming grant

Ball State Public Media’s Stations, Indiana Public Radio, and Ball State PBS have been awarded grants from the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations and the Indiana Arts Commission to produce new programming supporting the arts in Indiana.

Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations and The Indiana Arts Commission have awarded grants to Ball State Public Media to support its new arts and culture content initiative. Ball State Public Media covers both Indiana Public Radio and Ball State PBS.

The Indiana Arts Commission has also recently recognized Ball State Public Media as a winner of the Indiana Arts Trust, due to its commitment to promoting the arts in Indiana.

The grants awarded by the Indiana Arts Commission and Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations will allow Ball State Public Media to start a new arts and culture content initiative across multiple platforms. This initiative is built around showcasing the diverse and exciting arts and cultural community in East Central Indiana while also fostering artistic exploration, community engagement, and creativity.

In an article posted on Ball State University’s website, Dr. Phil Hoffman, the assistant Dean of Media and general manager of Ball State Public Media, talked about the grant, saying, "We are grateful to the Indiana Arts Commission and Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations for their support. This funding will allow us to amplify the voices of artists, performers, and cultural institutions in Indiana, enriching the lives of our viewers and promoting the diverse artistic spirit of our state."

Ball State Public Media will use the funding to create programming that looks at a variety of art formats, artistic endeavors, and cultural traditions in Indiana. The new content will showcase looks behind the scenes into the creative process, performances, documentaries, digital short form series, and interviews with artists. The initiative will also utilize digital platforms and social media to expose a wider audience to the work being done in the area, and encourage audience engagement.

The grant awarded to Ball State Public Media by the Indiana Arts Commission is the Indiana Arts Trust award, and is used to recognize an organization’s commitment to foster creativity and promote art throughout the state. As a winner of the Indiana Arts Trust, Ball State Public Media joins a prestigious community of institutions that are dedicated to supporting the arts in Indiana.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from the Indiana Arts Commission. It affirms our dedication to highlighting the talent, diversity, and cultural richness that exists in our region. We are excited to utilize these grant funds to strengthen our programming and better serve our community,” said Dr. Hoffman.

The new local content initiative presented by Ball State Public Media is set to begin late this year, and hopes to offer audiences an immersive and unique arts and culture programming.
