University of Saint Francis searches for new centralized campus location

The University of Saint Francis is looking for a new location for its operations. It plans to move out of downtown Fort Wayne and find a more centralized campus location.

The University of Saint Francis is currently located in downtown Fort Wayne; however, that is set to change.

The university’s president, Eric Albert Zimmer, talked to WANE about the decision to move, saying, “Asking our students to commute to a downtown location was challenging for them. We wanted to remove that challenge.”

The push for more centralization will proceed with the building of a new student center. There is also a potential for more student housing in the future. Zimmer spoke on this as well, saying, “The student center will be the key. We are also looking at updating our residence halls and building new residence halls.”

Zimmer also mentioned that the university has been in talks with the city of Fort Wayne about selling the downtown location, including discussions with the Mayor, Tom Henry. Zimmer said, “We are talking with different people about what it might look like to walk away from our campus, but that is very preliminary.”

Zimmer stated that ultimately, the University of Saint Francis wants to continue its investment in Fort Wayne, and that as it continues to look for a new location, it will also search for something worthwhile to fill the downtown space that will benefit the area.

While there are talks to sell the downtown space, Zimmer did hint that the university may hold onto the land if nothing better comes along to fill the space; however, all academic programs will be shifting to the main campus regardless.

The University of Saint Francis offers over 60 degree programs from associate degrees up to doctoral programs. More information about the school can be found on its website.
