Belmont College to offer pharmacy technician program

Belmont College is offering a new pharmacy technician program as part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in Ohio and West Virginia that will prepare students to work an entry level pharmacy technician program and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam.

A new 70-hour pharmacy technician program will be offered this spring at Belmont College thanks to the work of the Workforce Development and Community Education Department there.

Students attending the program will receive both practical and technical training so that they will have the skills necessary to be qualified for entry level pharmacy technician positions.

Classes begin this spring at the end of March and will run through June 1, with classes taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 until 9:30 p.m. Students who complete the course will be given the opportunity to take part in an 80-hour clinical externship for free.

Students completing the program will be awarded a Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Completion from Belmont College and will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam. Completion of the program and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam will give students qualifications that meet or exceed Ohio’s employment requirements for pharmacy technician positions. These qualifications also satisfy the employment requirements of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. However, the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam is not included in the cost of the program, and so will have to be covered by the students.

This pharmacy technician program was approved as a part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in Ohio and West Virginia. Students interested in attending the program are advised to contact a WIOA representative to see if they are eligible for the program’s funding. Information on where to find a representative can be found here.
