Dr. Ron Meade named new Health Science Dean at Somerset Community College

Lincoln County native and F.A. Davis Award winner Dr. Ron Meade has been made Dean of Somerset Community College’s Health Sciences department.

Dr. Ron Meade is the new dean of Health Sciences at Somerset Community College.

Living in Somerset, Dr. Meade is a native of Lincoln County, Kentucky. He is the director of the respected Physical Therapist Assistant program at Somerset Community College. He has been awarded multiple honors at the local, state, and national scales. Recently, in 2021, Dr. Meade won the F.A. Davis Award for Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Educator from the American Physical Therapy Association

Dr. Meade’s teaching prowess can be seen in the successes of his past students. Many of his students have gone on to be recognized by the APTA, as well. More than 50 students and graduates of the Somerset Community College Physical Therapist Assistant program have been recognized in the past 16 years. Dr. Meade has also been dedicated to helping his students fund their college experiences and has helped them bring in more than $200,000 in scholarship money. 

The Lane Report spoke with Dr. Clint Hayes, the senior VP of academic affairs at Somerset Community College, about Dr. Meade’s work as an educator: “Dr. Meade has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities in his work here at SCC, including but not limited to leading one of the nation’s highest ranked PTA programs. I look forward to working with him as he expands those efforts to all of the College’s Health Sciences programs.”

In his new job as the Health Science Dean, Dr. Meade will now also be leading the charge of the Associate Degree Nursing (RN), Medical Assisting, EMS-Paramedic, Medical Laboratory Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Radiography, Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapist, and Surgical Technology programs as well as the fitness centers.
