At the most recent meeting of the Imaging Sciences Advisory Board, those in attendance took the time to celebrate a quarter century of undergraduate imaging science education and its impact on the community.
Morehead State University has been serving its students for the past quarter century with imaging sciences education. As this milestone comes into view, Morehead chose to celebrate by recognizing its programs, students, and all of the people whose support has been instrumental to its success.
This anniversary was celebrated during a recent meeting of the Imaging Sciences Advisory Board. There, students were allowed to share their experiences with the program and how it had benefited them. Jamie Woolery of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (or CPE) was also in attendance at the meeting in order to participate in the celebration.
In an article posted on Morehead State University’s website, Jeffery Fanin (Class of 1990), CTMR interim program director, and associate professor, was quoted about the program, saying, "It continues to support healthcare needs. I am very proud and honored that these programs have continued a long tradition of success."
One of the students who attended the meeting to share her experience was Kennedy Havens, a Morehead native and sophomore, majoring in the Associate of Applied Science - Radiologic Science program. She earned a scholarship on behalf of the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund. In her speech, she noted her immense appreciation to those who provided the scholarship for the financial help, and talked about her hope to some day be able to offer support as she had been supported.
The experience Havens’ was provided served as a highlight of the positive personal impact of financial assistance, and how it can allow for students to go after their higher education goals.
CPE President Dr. Aaron Thompson was also in attendance at the meeting, and was awarded one of three Honorary Lifetime Imaging Science Advisory Board Member awards. The award was presented by the Imaging Sciences faculty and staff, including Fannin.
This milestone served as a chance for those in attendance at the board meeting to reflect on 25 years of undergraduate imaging science education at Morehead, while also celebrating the staff, faculty, students, and their support systems who make such programs possible.
