The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has granted the program initial accreditation and the next evaluation visit is scheduled for Spring 2031.
New River Community and Technical College has received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) for its Associate Degree Nursing program. ACEN accreditation marks the program as meeting the established standards for nursing education, and helps graduates stand out in the job market as having completed an accredited program.
According to an article on New River Community and Technical College’s website, Staci Jordan, MSN, RN, who serves as the nurse administrator at the college, was quoted as saying of the achievement, “This is a great accomplishment for our nursing program. There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point, and we are thankful for the faculty and staff who have helped make it happen. We are excited about what this means for our students and for the future of nursing education at the college.”
The Associate Degree Nursing program at New River Community and Technical college is a 60-credit program that helps licensed practical nurses and paramedics earn an associate degree in as few as three semesters. The program combines classroom work and hands-on education, and when completed, students will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse.
College president Dr. Bonny Copenhaver said, “Earning ACEN accreditation is a significant achievement for New River Community and Technical College and reflects our commitment to providing high-quality nursing education. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our nursing faculty and staff, who work tirelessly to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare. More importantly, it reinforces our commitment to our students and to meeting the growing need for skilled healthcare professionals throughout southern West Virginia.”
The accreditation marks the college’s commitment to preparing qualified graduates to work in nursing roles throughout the region.
