Baldwin Wallace University expands student access to healthcare

Students will now have access to MobileMD, as well as receive preferred patient status at Southwest General Medical Group locations, which the university has partnered with since 2024.

Baldwin Wallace University students will now receive expanded access to healthcare options. At the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester, students gained access to MobileMD, a service that offers personalized on-campus visits for subscribers. Additionally, students will receive preferred patient status at Southwest General Medical Group locations, allowing them to access same-day care by appointment or drop-in at three locations near campus.

According to an article on Baldwin Wallace University’s website, Dr. Lena Crain, who serves as the Vice President for Student Experience and Dean of Students, was quoted as saying, "One benefit of BW's location is proximity to many high-quality health care options. Students have enjoyed extended evening and weekend hours at campus counseling services and frequently requested similar availability for health services. This new arrangement with SGMG gives students greater flexibility to access care.”

Baldwin Wallace University has partnered with Southwest General Medical Group since 2024. With the new preferred patient status students will receive at SGMG locations, they can receive same-day care at the clinics in Middleburg Heights, Berea, and Olmsted Township. Baldwin Wallace University will also provide free transportation to these clinics for students. SGMG used to operate an on-campus location; however, that location has closed in favor of this new preferred patient system.

Students who were patients with the on-campus SGMG clinic will have their records transferred and can continue care with other SGMG physicians. Students will have the option to use their health insurance or SGMG's self-pay plan.

Student Body President and Student Health Committee member Faith Gillette said, "As an advocate for students, having this expanded access at three locations is important to me. It's reassuring to know that students have multiple options for where to go, which medical providers they see, and hours that are compatible with students' demanding schedules."

Dr. Crain said of the new MobileMD option, "MobileMD is an excellent solution for students and families looking for predicable, straightforward billing, especially for students for whom insurance or provider networks are a concern. We are grateful to MobileMD for offering their creativity and quality care to BW students.”

MobileMD will allow students to book an on-campus appointment with a MobileMD provider who can give the student care for colds, strep, flu, injuries, physicals, and more.

MobileMD partner Darryl Costin Jr. said, "We want to make it as simple as possible for BW students to get care when they're sick and away from home. With a MobileMD membership, students can get care right on campus without the waiting rooms or hassle of urgent care — and without surprise bills. Just call or text; we come to you, and you can focus on getting better."
