Lansing Community College is expanding its student mental health and wellness resources with a partnership with Uwill, a company that provides immediate mental health services to individuals experiencing crises through telehealth appointments with licensed counselors. The platform will provide immediate service to students, removing barriers to assistance in mental health emergencies.
According to an article on Lansing Community College’s website, Michael London, who is the Founder and CEO of Uwill, was quoted as saying of the necessity of the service, “Mental health is foundational to how students learn, communicate, and build confidence during some of the most formative years of their lives. Expanding access to care is one of the most meaningful ways institutions can support student success, and better equip students to navigate challenges and remain engaged in their education.”
Students will be able to access mental health support both in times of crisis and in times of general need. Using the Uwill platform, students can access teletherapy, a direct 24/7/365 crisis connection, prescription management, on-demand medical care, basic needs assistance, and wellness programming. Students can set their preferences and needs and the platform will provide them with access to a licensed mental health counselor.
Louise Rabidoux, a Mental Health Counselor at Lansing Community College, said, “Mental health support directly impacts a student’s emotional well-being, academic performance, and long-term success, even after graduation. When students feel emotionally supported, they are more likely to engage in campus life and seek help before challenges become crises.”
Fifteen colleges in Michigan are utilizing Uwill to provide their students with enhanced mental health and wellness support, including Lansing Community College, College For Creative Studies, Delta College, Michigan State University, and Western Michigan University.
