Muskingum University has launched a new online graduate program. The Master of Science in Nursing: Leadership and Education Program is one of only a few in the state of Ohio that focuses on preparing nurses for both leadership and education to give them the ability to advance in their careers. Coursework focuses on nursing leadership, education, communication, and evidence-based practice, preparing nurses to lead teams, educate future nurses, and influence the future of nursing.
According to an article on Muskingum University’s website, Joseph C. Shaeffer, DNP, RN, who serves as the Director & Chair of Nursing Programs, was quoted as saying of the new program, “Muskingum University is proud to expand its healthcare education offerings through the introduction of the MSN in Leadership & Education. This program is designed to empower nurses to lead with confidence, educate with purpose, and help shape the future of healthcare delivery. By investing in advanced nursing education, Muskingum is helping build stronger healthcare systems and creating new pathways for professional growth and community impact.”
The flexible online program was designed to be accessible to working nurses, allowing them to work toward career advancement while still performing their duties and serving the community. The program contains courses that explore leadership development, healthcare innovation, curriculum and instruction, collaboration, and patient-centered care, providing working nurses with a number of new skills that will help them develop their abilities as nurses and leaders.
Dr. Paul Szalay, Interim Provost at Muskingum University, said, “Muskingum’s new MSN in Leadership and Education reflects our commitment to preparing nurses for the next stage of their careers and meeting critical workforce needs in healthcare. This program will help students grow as educators and leaders while strengthening the healthcare systems and communities they serve.”
Applications are now being accepted for the new program, with classes beginning on August 24, 2026.
