Walsh University Cavalier Athletics receives gift from Biery family to support stadium and field upgrades

The gift is one of the largest ever received by Cavalier Athletics and will support upgrades to the Biery Family Baseball Stadium and Tim Mead Field.

Walsh University’s Cavalier Athletics has received one of its largest-ever gifts thanks to alumni Ben and Michelle Biery. The gift will support upgrades to the Biery Family Baseball Stadium and Tim Mead Field, which will enhance the playing experience for the university’s student athletes. The gift also continues the Biery family’s tradition of supporting the university, as the Biery Family Baseball Stadium was originally established by Ben’s parents, Dennis and Judith Lynne Biery.

According to an article on Walsh University’s website, Ben Biery, who is a 2000 Walsh alumnus, a former All-American catcher on the Cavalier baseball team, and a Walsh University Athletics Wall of Fame honoree, was quoted as saying of the university, “Walsh University has been an important part of our family for decades, and this project is about investing in the future of the program and the student-athletes who will wear the Cavalier uniform in the years ahead. We are honored to help strengthen a field that has meant so much to our family and to so many Walsh baseball players before us.”

Among the upgrades that will be possible through the Biery family’s most recent gift, along with additional support, are the installation of a synthetic turf infield, updated backstop and netting, outfield netting, a new scoreboard, improvements to the batting cages, press box enhancements, dugout upgrades, and seating improvements.

Ben and Michelle Biery are connected to Walsh University through more than just their degrees. Ben recalls attending the annual Walsh Ski Club trips to Mont Tremblant as a child. Now, he is a member of the Walsh University Board of Directors. Michelle is a former Walsh Alumni Association Board member.

The university’s Vice President for Philanthropy, Dr. Eric Constant, said, “Walsh University has been shaped by families who believe in the power of education, athletics and community. The Biery family’s commitment reflects the very best of that tradition. These enhancements will provide our baseball scholar-athletes with a facility worthy of their dedication and future success.”

The planned improvements are set to begin in late summer.
