Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control approves housing renovations and tuition prices at scheduled meeting

At the regular meeting on June 15, the Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control approved tuition prices, student housing renovations, and more.

The Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control recently announced its approval of a new general fund operating budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The announcement was made during the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 15. The operating budget contains tuition rates.

A Michigan undergraduate student attending Saginaw Valley State University during the coming 2026-27 academic year can expect to pay 4.4% more than the previous year for a total of $14,280. A full time student is someone taking between 12 and 18 credit hours. During the 2025-26 academic year, Saginaw Valley State University moved to a block tuition structure. Part time students, those taking fewer than 12 credits, will be charged $595 per credit hour during the 2026-27 academic year, including spring and summer courses.

Of Michigan’s 15 public universities, SVSU continues to have the lowest tuition rate.

At the meeting the Board also approved $6.4 million in spending for the renovation of some apartment style housing units located in the University Village complex. According to Niche’s annual “best dorms” rating, Saginaw Valley State University has the highest ranked student housing in America.

The Board also approved the promotions of 16 faculty members, one of which was posthumous. Joe Weaver, psychology; Dennis Savard, criminal justice; Aricka Schweitzer, occupational therapy; Chat Pongpatipat, marketing; John Herman, mechanical engineering; Aneesha Gogineni, mechanical engineering; Melissa Garmo, criminal justice; Micah DelVecchio, economics; Emily Beard-Bohn, English; and Michael Heron, social work (posthumously).

The Board then confirmed the board members of some previously authorized charter schools, passed a resolution to conclude the term of a board member of Flat River Academy, a previously authorized charter school, and approved a revised SVSU Code of Student Conduct.
