Nashville State Community College partners with Trevecca Nazarene University for nursing education expansion

The partnership establishes a pathway for Nashville State Community College health sciences students to earn a degree in nursing.

Nashville State Community College and Trevecca Nazarene University have formed a partnership to help students who earn a health sciences associate degree at Nashville State Community College to enter into a bachelor degree nursing program at Trevecca Nazarene University. The pathway is intended to expand opportunities for students in Middle Tennessee to obtain nursing education.

According to an article on Nashville State Community College’s website, Dr. Tom Middendorf, who serves as the Provost at Trevecca Nazarene University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Trevecca continues to grow our footprint in key areas where leadership and service make a real impact on our community. Nursing is one of those areas, and we are relentlessly pursuing excellence in these initiatives. Nashville State has always been a great partner, and we are excited to provide pathways to build on the good foundation they set through their graduates.”

The partnership will see Trevecca Nazarene University reserving 10 spots in each cohort of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for qualified Nashville State Community College health sciences graduates. The pathway will establish a clear transition for students who wish to enter into a bachelor degree program for nursing and will help guide them toward advanced education or career opportunities.

In order to be eligible for the opportunity, Nashville State Community College graduates must have earned an Associate of Science in Health Sciences with a cumulative 3.0 grade point average. They must also submit an application to Trevecca Nazarene University and satisfy all admission requirements for the university.

Nashville State Community College’s associate degree program in health sciences will help prepare students for further healthcare or nursing programs, including the BSN program at Trevecca Nazarene University. The associate degree program will help students complete some prerequisite courses, allowing them to transfer seamlessly into the bachelor degree programming.

Donna Whitehouse, who serves as the dean of the School of Health Sciences at Nashville State Community College, said, “This partnership reflects Nashville State’s commitment to student success. By creating a seamless transfer opportunity, we are helping students continue their education with confidence and purpose.”
