Indiana University Southeast introduces new academic structure

Beginning on July 1, 2026, the university will streamline its current six-school academic structure into a three-school structure.

Indiana University Southeast has announced that beginning on July 1, 2026, it will restructure its academic schools from six to three. While the change is still pending approval from the necessary leadership, it is expected that streamlining the number of academic schools will better serve students and create better workforce pathways.

According to an article on Indiana University Southeast’s website, Chancellor Debbie Ford is quoted as saying of the restructuring, “This is a thoughtful, collaborative step forward for IU Southeast. By aligning our programs more closely with workforce needs and creating a more student-centered structure, we are positioning our university—and our graduates—for long-term success. This is about meeting the moment and preparing for the future. This change is about clarity, connection, and opportunity. Our students will continue to benefit from the same strong academic offerings, now supported by a structure that makes it easier to navigate their educational journey and prepares them for the careers ahead.”

The university will be organized into the College of Education, Arts, and Human Services; the College of Business, Communication, and Technology; and the College of Health, Nursing, and Sciences. This represents a consolidation of the current six schools, which include the School of Arts and Letters; the School of Business; the School of Education; the School of Nursing; the School of Natural Sciences; and the School of Social Sciences.

The streamlined three-school structure is the result of campus-wide surveys and a collaboration of faculty and staff that identified the benefits of such a change. It is expected that the schools being organized into related subjects will create more opportunities for collaboration between departments and provide students with strengthened academic pathways.

The university does not expect that any staffing reductions will be made a result of the restructuring, though some roles may be changed.
