The new pathway will give students who earn an Associate in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education at Oakland Community College the ability to seamlessly transfer to Oakland University to earn a bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education.
Oakland Community College and Oakland University have come together to create a seamless transfer pathway to benefit students pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. Those who earn an associate degree from the community college through aligned coursework can transfer to the university to earn their bachelor degree, creating a more affordable path to a bachelor degree. This is one of 16 articulation agreements between Oakland Community College and Oakland University.
According to an article on Oakland Community College’s website, Jolene Chapman, the college’s provost, was quoted as saying of the agreement, “We continue to expand our transfer partnerships with Oakland University, creating seamless pathways for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in their chosen career field. This Early Childhood Education agreement helps address a high demand for educators in our community.”
In order to participate in the transfer pathway, students at Oakland Community College must complete at least 57 credit hours and earn an associate of applied science degree at the college with a minimum of a 2.8 grade point average. Meeting these requirements will allow them to enroll at Oakland University to pursue upper-level bachelor degree courses in Early Childhood Education. The bachelor degree program requires at least 120 credits.
By completing the bachelor degree program through Oakland University, students will become prepared for Michigan teacher certification for birth through third grade. Students must complete both the Michigan Transfer Agreement requirements and the Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification.
Other articulation agreements that have been established between Oakland Community College and Oakland University include Applied Health Science, Applied Health Science - Radiology Technology Leadership, Interdisciplinary Studies, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Graphic Design, Human Resource Development, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Public Health, Social Work, and RN-BSN.
