Muskegon Community College expands Muskegon Area Promise

The Muskegon Area Promise expansion goes into effect for the Fall 2026 semester, with retroactivity to apply for students who graduated high school as long ago as 2015.

Muskegon Community College students will benefit from an expanded Muskegon Area Promise, providing students with scholarships and financial assistance to pursue a certificate or associate degree. The expansion of access includes removing the previous high school grade point average requirements to give even more students the ability to attend college.

According to an article on Muskegon Community College’s website, Dan Rinsema-Sybenga, who serves as the college’s Dean of Academic Affairs, was quoted as saying, “When you combine broader access through the Promise with programs built around today’s technology, it creates real momentum for students and for our entire community. There has never been a better time to enroll at MCC than there is right now.”

The Muskegon Area Promise is now also available to students who graduated from high school as long ago as 2015, giving even more individuals the ability to pursue their college education. Every student who receives a Promise Scholarship will also be eligible to receive a $500 per semester allowance to pay for their books and course materials.

In addition to making college more accessible and affordable for students in the region, Muskegon Community College is also working to make sure it has program offerings that will benefit students who are looking to enter into the region’s workforce with the skills needed for prominent industries.

As such, the college is introducing new programs, like the one-year Data Science certificate program. The Data Science certificate program includes courses on artificial intelligence, data analysis, and automation. Another new program in the works is a reworked Electrical Engineering Technology degree that has been enhanced to be even more beneficial to students.
