Members First Credit Union gifted the college $75,000 through the Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow fundraising campaign.
Mid Michigan College has received a $75,000 donation from Members FIrst Credit Union via the college’s Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow fundraising campaign. The donation will support the college’s new Nursing Lab, which is home to the college’s nursing program that was established in 1969.
According to an article on Mid Michigan College’s website, Alexa Carey, who serves as the Executive Director of the Mid Michigan College Foundation, was quoted as saying of the Nursing Lab gift, “Support like this demonstrates the power of partnership. Members First Credit Union is helping our nursing students thrive while advancing the goals of our Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow campaign.”
Thanks to the gift from Members First Credit Union, the new Nursing Lab on the college’s Harrison Campus will now bear the credit union’s name. The Nursing Lab provides hands-on clinical training to ensure that the nurses who are educated through Mid Michigan College’s nursing program are fully prepared to enter into the field of nursing.
The college has had a nursing program since 1969, which has graduated more than 3,500 nurses. The college reports that in the past three years alone, enrollment in the program has increased by 15%. This large increase points to heightened demand for healthcare workers and interest in the field. The college also reports that 80% of its nursing graduates stay in the area, filling positions in local hospitals and clinics to strengthen the region’s workforce.
Carrie Iafrate, the Chief Executive Officer of Members First Credit Union, said, “At Members First Credit Union, our vision is to create thriving communities, and this investment is a reflection of that commitment. With a Members First branch in Harrison, we’re proud to invest locally—naming the new Nursing Lab at Mid Michigan College and supporting students who will go on to care for the very communities we serve.”
The Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow campaign seeks to raise money for various initiatives that will improve the Mid Michigan College community, including campus beautification initiatives, a new Event Center, and investments in skilled trades programs and health sciences programs.
