The funding will provide career exploration opportunities and technology education for Henry Ford College students and the larger local community.
Henry Ford College has received $72,000 from Apple to provide career exploration opportunities and technology training and education to students, as well as community members of all ages. The college will use the funding to develop courses on a range of technology topics, including app development and coding, to introduce learners of all ages to pathways into technology careers.
According to an article on Henry Ford College’s website, Cassandra Myers, who serves as the college’s Workforce Development Program Manager, was quoted as saying, “Our vision is to create inclusive learning pathways that introduce students to technology early and help current professionals strengthen their digital skills. With Apple’s support, we are excited to provide hands-on experiences that inspire creativity, problem-solving, and career readiness.”
The college will develop courses that will introduce K-12 students and working professionals to technology topics, technology career pathways, and learning opportunities to help them develop their skills and earn industry certifications. Henry Ford College aims to educate 180 students through these new courses, which it is already offering in the Fall 2025 semester and will continue in the Winter and Summer 2026 semesters.
The first course is Discovering Coding through Swift. This program is for local 7th and 8th grade students to explore Apple’s Swift coding language with challenges and hands-on learning. The second course is Creation Explorer, also for 7th and 8th graders, to teach media creation. Students will use programs like iMovie, GarageBand, and Keynote to tell stories, create movies, and produce interactive content. The third course, Coding and Creating with Drones, is for both high school students and adult learners. Students will use block-based and Swift coding to explore drone technology, UI/UX design, and autonomous systems. The final course is the Apple IT Support Certifications course, which prepares students to earn the Apple Certified Support Professional credential.
These courses will help create interest in younger learners in technology and help older students get started on the path toward technology careers.
