In the most recent of many gifts provided by the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor to Washtenaw Community College, the nonprofit organization gave its largest donation to the college to date.

Washtenaw Community College has received a check for $117,020 from the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor, a philanthropic organization that has been supporting students at Washtenaw Community College with scholarships for many years. This most recent donation from the nonprofit is its largest gift for WCC scholarships to date.

According to an article on Washtenaw Community College’s website, Chief Philanthropy Officer Nikki Borges was quoted as saying of the impact of the organization’s donations, “The Kiwanis Club’s mission is clear: to help local students earn their degrees faster and with less financial burden. Thanks to their continued generosity and dedication, that mission is being fulfilled every day. We’re truly thankful for their partnership and commitment to student success.”

The Kiwanis Endowed Scholarship at Washtenaw Community College provides a full tuition and textbook scholarship for students who are attending the college full time, a value of $3,500 per year. Students can receive the scholarship for up to three years as long as they maintain a 2.0 grade point average. In 2024, 34 students each received the Kiwanis scholarship.

WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca said, “When I think of the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor, one word comes to mind: commitment. Your scholarship fund is one of the most inspiring examples of commitment to young people, to education and to building a stronger future.”

According to the website for the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor, the organization’s mission is “to provide an environment for congenial fellowship for a diverse group of members dedicated to community service primarily in Washtenaw County with an emphasis on the needs of children and families.” In 2024, the organization provided more than $1,609,000 in grants.

The organization notes that about a quarter of the funding it provided for the scholarship this year was raised during its Kiwanis Thrift Sale.
