University of Findlay introduces new Biology Pre-Medicine program

The program will help undergraduate students prepare to move on to medical school.

The University of Findlay has introduced a new program for the Fall 2025 semester: the Biology Pre-Medicine program. It will help students get on the right track for future entrance into medical school to pursue their medical and healthcare career goals. The program, housed within the College of Sciences, will give students the opportunity to get hands-on experience and have personalized advising services to set them up for success.

According to an article on the University of Findlay’s website, Nikki Hintze, who serves as the university’s vice president of enrollment management and marketing, was quoted as saying of the new program, “Our new biology pre-medicine program reinforces our focus on students and provides them with the opportunities to learn and eventually serve their communities through meaningful and productive healthcare careers that begin at the University of Findlay.”

The curriculum for the new program has been designed to closely align with what medical schools will be looking for in their admissions requirements, a decision that Bethany Henderson-Dean, PH.D., an associate professor and chair of biology, believes will make all the difference in preparing students for a successful start in medicine. She said, “By aligning our curriculum with entrance requirements and building strong connections with alumni and health professionals, we provide students with invaluable shadowing and research experiences that not only prepare them academically but also strengthen their applications and confidence as future healthcare leaders.”

The program will provide students with many benefits, like access to personalized pre-med advising, hands-on clinical experiences, interview preparation assistance, undergraduate research opportunities, the chance to participate in the Pre-Med Club, and internships and job-shadowing programs with local hospitals and clinics.

Students will take courses that explore topics like microbial pathogenesis, immunology, and cancer biology, as well as ethical leadership, healthcare disparities, and patient-centered care. These will prepare students for medical school and eventual careers in medicine, chiropractic, dentistry, physician assistant, and optometry.
