Bowling Green State University and Universal Orlando have formed a partnership that will give Universal Orlando’s employees the ability to enroll into Bowling Green State University's bachelor degree program in resort and attraction management, the only one of its kind in the country. Universal Orlando employees will be able to use their tuition assistance employee benefit in order to enroll into the online program as a means of improving their skills and chances for promotion within the company.
According to an article on Bowling Green State University’s website, Dr. Swathi Ravichandran, who serves as a professor and the founding director of the resort and attraction management program, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “We are excited to partner with Universal Orlando to empower its employees to earn a quality, convenient education from BGSU that advances their careers and professional goals. Since its inception, the BGSU Resort and Attraction Management program has provided students with relevant, hands-on learning experiences and opportunities in an ever-growing profession, and industry partners like these further bolster our commitment to supporting and meeting workforce demands in Ohio and beyond."
Within the resort and attraction management program, students will learn a wide range of skills that will help them excel within the industry. Topics covered include leadership and strategic management, human resources management, risk management and safety, marketing, advertising, and social media, which will prepare students to work within theme and amusement park operations, resort management, retail, marketing, and finance, all within the resort and attraction industry.
Currently, more than two dozen graduates of Bowling Green State University’s resort and attraction management program are employed by Universal Orlando, underscoring the usefulness and practicality of such a program. The program includes a co-op requirement, which current Universal Orlando employees can fulfil simply by continuing to work in their current positions while enrolled in the online program.
