The program pairs students with college faculty members for mentorship opportunities and guidance.
Schoolcraft College’s new College2Career Professional Mentorship program has returned for the Fall 2025 semester after a successful start in the Spring 2025 semester. The program pairs a current student with a faculty member at the college to serve as the student’s mentor who will guide the student through career goal setting, planning, and follow through.
According to an article on Schoolcraft College’s website, Jason Greifenberg, who serves as the college’s Executive Director of Infrastructure Administration and Business Continuity, was quoted as saying of the power of the mentorship program, “Mentoring isn’t just about sharing knowledge — it’s about investing in the future of our students. When we take time to support and guide them, we’re not only helping them succeed academically and professionally — we’re also strengthening our entire college community.”
Greifenberg had never participated in any kind of mentorship program before signing on to become a mentor within the inaugural cohort of the College2Career Professional Mentorship program. The program allows the mentor and the mentee to work out their own meeting schedules to ensure both parties are happy with the frequency of meetings. In his meetings with his mentee, Greifenberg encouraged the student to celebrate his successes, even the small ones. The conversation was in regard to walking at the commencement ceremony when he graduated last spring.
Greifenberg said, “He kind of paused and said, ‘I’ve never heard that before.’ They had a party at home and his family was there. It was a good time all around. I feel happy for him that my mentorship helped him obtain that moment.”
Of the overall experience in the program, he added, “In just a few months of mentoring students here at Schoolcraft College, I’ve already witnessed the value of providing motivation, building confidence, and helping students navigate both college life and their transition into the workforce.”
The College2Career Professional Mentorship program was created by the Career Mentorship and Placement Office and seeks to pair student mentees with mentors from fields like Information Technology, Supply Chain, Business, and Healthcare.
