The partnership will give students at Northwestern Michigan College easier access to bachelor degrees at Ferris State University.
Ferris State University and Northwestern Michigan College have come together to enhance an existing transfer agreement between the two institutions, aimed at creating a simpler path for Northwestern Michigan College students to transfer to Ferris State University to obtain a bachelor degree. The enhanced agreement is coming alongside the relocation of the Traverse City Student Success Hub into a new spot on Northwestern Michigan College’s campus.
According to an article on Ferris State University’s website, NMC President Nick Nissley was quoted as saying of the Traverse City Student Success Hub, “We’re evolving from a physical hub to a more integrated partnership model, one that reflects how students learn today. Students increasingly seek flexibility: hybrid options, online support and services across multiple locations, not just in a single building.”
The Traverse City Student Success Hub includes university partners Central Michigan University, Davenport University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, and Michigan State’s Institute of Agricultural Technology.
The newly enhanced transfer agreement between Ferris State University and Northwestern Michigan College began with the Fall 2025 semester and will be reviewed in three years. The agreement will allow for guaranteed admission into select Ferris State University bachelor degree programs for qualified NMC students, dual advising from both schools, and concurrent enrollment options that would give students the ability to simultaneously pursue an associate degree and a bachelor degree.
The qualifying bachelor degree programs under the enhanced transfer agreement include those that will lead to students becoming qualified for in-demand careers. These programs are Accountancy, Business Administration, Criminal Justice (Generalist), Early Childhood Education, Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, Professional Esports Production, Project Management, and Risk Management and Insurance.
