The Town Mountain Eye Clinic is now open and accepting appointments for community members. The new clinic will provide learning opportunities for students in the College of Optometry and quality eye care for those in the community.
The University of Pikeville’s Kentucky College of Optometry has opened the new Town Mountain Eye Clinic to serve members of the Appalachian region in Pikeville, Kentucky. The new clinic will provide optometry services to residents and training opportunities for students who are studying in the Kentucky College of Optometry.
According to an article on the University of Pikeville’s website, Renee Reeder, O.D., FAAO, FBCLA, FSLS, FIACLE, who serves as the dean of the Kentucky College of Optometry, was quoted as saying, “We know this region has historically faced limited access to eye care. Too many neighbors have gone without timely exams, diagnoses and treatment. With this renovation, we affirm our role as good members of the community, standing with Pikeville residents to ensure excellent care is available close to home.”
The Town Mountain Eye Clinic will provide services like eye exams, contact lens fittings, and treatments for eye conditions. The clinic will serve patients of all ages, who will receive treatment from staff members, some of whom will be students in the College of Optometry.
Kentucky State Senator Phillip Wheeler, J.D., attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Town Mountain Eye Clinic. His father served as an ophthalmologist in an office in the same location. Wheeler said, “My father practiced ophthalmology here for 38 years, and this office was, in many ways, a second home to me growing up. The region of Eastern Kentucky has always been deeply important to my family, and I’m proud that this clinic will carry forward the mission of serving our neighbors’ vision needs through exceptional optometric care.”
The new Town Mountain Eye Clinic is located at 387 Town Mountain Road in Pikeville, Kentucky.
