Ashland Community and Technical College receives grant to support students in Computerized Manufacturing and Machining program

The $12,000 scholarship grant comes from the Gene Haas Foundation.

Ashland Community and Technical College’s Computerized Manufacturing and Machining program has received a $12,000 scholarship grant from the Gene Haas Foundation. This grant is the sixth such grant provided by the Foundation, with the Foundation providing a grand total of $58,000 in scholarship funding for students in the program.

According to an article on Ashland Community and Technical College’s website, Levi McCarty, who serves as the Computerized Manufacturing and Machining program coordinator as well as an instructor, was quoted as saying of his personal connection with the scholarships this grant funding provides, “Receiving the Gene Haas grant has some sentimental value to me. It provided a way for me to even begin the machine tool program in the first place. I graduated from the program in 2022 with a job and almost no debt from student loans because of it. All current and prospective students should be eligible to receive this grant. If someone were to be interested in learning this trade with their classes and books almost entirely paid for, this would be the way to go.”

In order to be eligible to receive the scholarship from the Gene Hass Foundation grant, students must demonstrate their financial need and prove their continued success within the program.

The Gene Haas Foundation aims to help students gain the skills they need to become successful in the manufacturing and machining industry, thereby improving the local workforce through a steady flow of well-prepared employees.

Students in the Computerized Manufacturing and Machining program are taught via hands-on work that will equip them with the skills to operate CNC machine tools, verify the accuracy of products, and manufacture work pieces. The college offers two different diplomas and four certificates in the subject matter, preparing students for success in the industry.
