Roane State Community College forms articulation agreement with Tennessee Technological University

The articulation agreement is for a 2+2 program pathway for students pursuing project management concentration.

Roane State Community College and Tennessee Technological University have formed an articulation agreement that establishes a 2+2 program pathway for students who are pursuing a project management concentration. Roane State Community College students will be able to complete a general transfer associate degree concentrating on project management in two years and then seamlessly transfer to Tennessee Technological University, where in two additional years of study, they can earn a Bachelor of Science in Emerging and Integrative Studies with a concentration in project management.

According to an article on Roane State Community College’s website, Phil Oldham, the president of Tennessee Technological University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Tennessee Tech values our partnership with Roane State, and we look forward to making it even simpler for students to earn a Tech degree using the strong foundation they receive at Roane State, all without having to leave home. By working together, we are creating new pathways for students in East Tennessee to earn a four-year degree from a nationally ranked institution in a highly sought-after field of study, all while expanding the college-to-career pipeline for regional anchors of our economy like Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This articulation agreement is a win-win for students and employers alike.”

Roane State Community College has an ongoing partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which belongs to the Department of Energy. The college created its concentration in project management and project controls via collaboration on curriculum with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Through these efforts, the curriculum has been designed so that students can earn a Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification while working toward their associate degree.

The new 2+2 program articulation agreement with Tennessee Technological University will give Roane State Community College students the ability to earn a four-year degree from Tennessee Tech all while taking classes in-person and online at Roane State Community College. Students will first earn a general transfer associate degree concentrating on project management from Roane State, and then will transfer to Tennessee Tech, where they will earn their Bachelor of Science in Emerging and Integrative Studies with a project management concentration. These additional two years of study will feature hybrid learning that will not require students to relocate to Tennessee Tech.

Chris Whaley, the president of Roane State Community College, said, “Project management is a critical skill for employers in our area, with high-paying careers only expected to grow as industries expand in East Tennessee. The new agreement with Tennessee Tech underscores our shared goals to adequately prepare graduates for these in-demand careers. We are grateful for this partnership as well as our continued collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in this field.”
