The two $30,000 gifts come from the City of Lenoir City and its utilities board, LCUB. The total estimated cost of the project is $75 million, with $7.5 million needing to come from private donors.
Roane State Community College has received $60,000 toward supporting the new Knox Regional Health Science Education Center that is currently under construction. The gifts come in the amount of $30,000 from the City of Lenoir City and $30,000 from its utilities board, LCUB. The Knox Regional Health Science Education Center is expected to complete construction in the fall, with classes in the building beginning in the Spring 2026 semester.
According to an article on Roane State Community College’s website, Scott Niermann, who serves as the executive director of Roane State Foundation, was quoted as saying of the gifts, “This joint pledge moves us closer to our goal of ensuring all students have access to an excellent health science education. We look forward to building on this strong partnership with Lenoir City and LCUB as we prepare to welcome the first students through the doors of this new campus. As our fundraising campaign continues, we welcome the support of citizens across the region who value a healthy, thriving community.”
The Knox Regional Health Science Education Center is a new campus of Roane State Community College and will house health science programs for both Roane State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville. The new campus will join Roane State Community College’s Knox County Center for Health Sciences, and the addition will allow both buildings to expand their capacities and offer more accessible health science education to the community.
The Knox Regional Health Science Education Center will house programs like nursing, EMS, polysomnography, respiratory therapy, cardiovascular technology, healthcare administration, ultrasound, and public health. The 130,000 square foot building will also house a simulation center.
Lenoir City Mayor Tony Aikens said, “We believe current and future generations of our community within this specific field of training will benefit for years to come. As a result, this will provide more opportunities for patients in need of care, as well, in our area due to this extensive training.”
