Classes will begin in October 2025 for a new Commercial Driver License training program at Somerset Community College’s Clinton Center.
Somerset Community College will launch a new CDL training program beginning this fall. Starting in October, students can begin training at the college’s Clinton Center to work toward earning their CDL. The new program will fill a workforce gap in Clinton County, helping more individuals enter into empty positions in the trucking industry.
According to an article on Somerset Community College’s website, Alex Beaty, a recent graduate of Somerset Community College, was quoted as saying of the new program option at Clinton Center, “I wish this opportunity was available while I was training. I drove from Clinton to the Somerset Campus daily to get my CDL credentials.” He went on to encourage anyone interested to check out the program, as he has found success since graduating. He said, “This is a life-changing career opportunity. It’s worth every penny you invest in your education. Once you’re out there making money, you’ll be glad you took the leap.”
Beaty quickly found a career in the trucking industry with Neat Companies. The organization has found several high-quality truck drivers who have completed their CDL through Somerset Community College.
Scotty Lynn, a representative from Neat Companies, said, “The CDL industry offers a pathway to great earning potential with short, intensive classes. Many companies actively recruit from the classroom, making job placement seamless. We recently welcomed Alex Beaty from Albany, a standout hire who demonstrated a strong willingness to learn and excel in his role.”
He added, “We are committed to fostering our relationship with SCC and look forward to regularly visiting the SCC Clinton Center to help the community secure promising careers for years to come.”
The CDL program at Somerset Community College can be completed in as little as four weeks.
