Shepherd University partners with Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine

The partnership will provide support for students who are interested in pursuing medical careers, such as guaranteed interviews and other opportunities.

Shepherd University has partnered with Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine in Robinwood, Maryland to provide aspiring medical students with increased support and opportunities for success. The partnership comes via the MSOM Pathways Program, which sees the MSOM forming relationships with partner institutions, like Shepherd University, to provide support to students through guaranteed medical school interviews and other valuable opportunities.

According to an article on Shepherd University’s website, Dr. Robert Warburton, who serves as the dean of Shepherd University’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Nursing, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “We have many students majoring in chemistry, biology, and other disciplines who are interested in the medical field. This agreement gives them an avenue to learn more about what it takes to succeed and helps us prepare them for that journey.”

Explaining these benefits, Dr. Chanté Richardson, who serves as the associate dean of student services and community engagement at MSOM, said, “Beyond the guaranteed interview, students will gain early access to valuable pre-medical resources, including MCAT and admission interview preparation, D.O. student shadowing opportunities, and other MSOM-sponsored pre-admission activities, designed to support students on their journey to medical school. The mission of the MSOM is to train physicians who will be socially responsible, professionally accomplished, and community-oriented. This partnership reflects MSOM’s commitment to removing barriers and expanding opportunity for promising future physicians.”

In order to participate in the MSOM Pathways Program, students must meet all necessary academic standards, including obtaining a 500 on the MCAT. Students must also demonstrate their abilities and commitment to participating in service opportunities, research, and clinicals.
