Thanks to support from community partners, Chattanooga State Community College was able to fund three faculty members in endowed chair positions.
Chattanooga State Community College has awarded endowed chair positions to three faculty members in nursing and business thanks to support from community partners, Erlanger and First Horizon, both of which funded the endowed chairs via gifts to the Chattanooga State Foundation. The endowed chair positions empower faculty members to provide the best education possible to their students.
The two faculty members to be named Erlanger Chairs of Excellence in Nursing were Jennifer Miller and Cheryl Moser. Each has been chosen for the positions thanks to their efforts to raise compassionate and empathetic future nurses through their teaching.
According to an article on Chattanooga State Community College’s website, Lindsey O’Hagan, Nursing Director at the college, was quoted as saying of both instructors, “Nursing is more than clinical knowledge—it’s empathy in action. Jennifer and Cheryl embody that and more. The Erlanger Chairs give our faculty the resources to go even further in preparing students for real-world impact. We’re deeply grateful to Erlanger for their continued investment in our faculty and students.”
The 2025 First Horizon Chair of Excellence in Business was given to Associate Professor of Business Amanda Smith, who challenges her students through her curriculum to think and act with confidence.
Of Smith’s recognition, Chad Jaynes, the college’s Dean of Business and Industry Partnership, said, “Professor Davis’s ability to connect theory with real-world application deeply enriches the student experience. The First Horizon Chair of Excellence elevates that impact and celebrates teaching excellence. We are truly grateful to First Horizon for their continued investment in our students, faculty, and the future of business education.”
Both community partners that established endowed chairs for nursing and business expect the move will have an impact on both the students that will learn from the endowed chairs and the region that will have employees and community members who have learned from them.
