Cleveland State University forms strategic partnership with Cleveland Guardians

The partnership seeks to foster community engagement and provide enhanced educational opportunities for students.

Cleveland State University has formed a strategic partnership with the Cleveland Guardians that will provide educational opportunities for students and will build community engagement throughout Cleveland and Northwest Ohio.

According to an article on Cleveland State University’s website, Roy Gifford, who serves as the university’s chief marketing and communications officer and vice president of marketing and communications, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “This partnership formalizes and strengthens opportunities for our current and future students to engage with one of Cleveland’s beloved professional sports teams. CSU is in and of the city of Cleveland, and we are thrilled to partner with the Guardians to successfully provide opportunities to future and current students that no other university in the city of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio has to offer.”

The partnership will include several initiatives that seek to bolster both educational opportunities and community engagement opportunities throughout the region.

The Cleveland Guardians will sponsor the university’s Men’s Club Baseball via its Guardians Nike RBI program. Additionally, the Guardians will sponsor the Cleveland State University Career Fair and post the opportunities that arise with the team, including internships and careers, on the university’s job board.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive internships with the Guardians, which will be applicable for students who are studying operations, supply chain, marketing, sports management, engineering, or exercise science.

The university and the team will also collaborate on community engagement opportunities, like CSU’s VikesFest, summer programming for high schoolers, guest speakers, fan nights, and CSU Day at the Guardians, all of which are intended to further bolster the relationship between the university, the team, and the community.

Tim Salcer, the Cleveland Guardians vice president of sales and service, said, “The Guardians are excited to partner with CSU to provide these opportunities and continue our long-standing relationship. We are particularly proud to provide CSU students with the tools and experience to succeed in sports-related fields and also further engage with the community to make a lasting impact for the city of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.”
