Cedarville University receives Choose Ohio First funding

The $1.05 million grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education will support students in the university’s STEMM majors with scholarships.

Cedarville University has received $1.05 million in Choose Ohio First funding from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The funding will support students in the university’s STEMM programs with scholarships and will require students to partake in internship or clinical experiences in their fields prior to graduation to ensure the students are workforce ready.

According to an article on Cedarville University's website, Kyle Brewer, who serves as the university’s assistant director of grant and foundation management, was quoted as saying of the grant award, “We are grateful to now have Choose Ohio First scholarships for almost every eligible STEMM major at Cedarville. We will continue to steward well the resources entrusted to us by the Ohio Department of Education and will seek to provide additional scholarships in the future.”

Cedarville University received its first Choose Ohio First funding in 2019 for its computer science and computer engineering programs, and in the years since, has received four more grants, bringing its number of programs supported by Choose Ohio First funding to 15.

The programs that are receiving support from the grant this year include allied health, biology, chemistry, molecular biology, and nursing.

Students in these programs will receive scholarships to help them complete their education and will be required to take part in research, internships, or clinical experiences to help ensure they are prepared to work in their fields upon graduation.
