Lincoln Memorial University launches new Veterinary Biomedical Science PhD program

The program is set to begin with the Fall 2025 semester and will focus on research and specialized training within the field of veterinary biomedical science.

Lincoln Memorial University's Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine has introduced its new PhD in Veterinary Biomedical Science program. The program will provide opportunities for students who are interested in research and innovation in the field of veterinary biomedical science.

According to an article on Lincoln Memorial University’s website, Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine Dean Stacy Anderson, DVM, PhD, DACVS-LA, was quoted as saying of the new program’s addition, “The introduction of our PhD in Veterinary Biomedical Science is a pivotal moment for the LMU-CVM, as it reflects our commitment to expanding veterinary research and education while addressing the unique needs of Appalachia. Through this research-intensive program, we are equipping the next generation of veterinary scientists and educators to make a lasting impact on animal, human, and environmental health in our region and beyond.”

The program can be completed in as few as 11 semesters. It consists of 96 credit hours of in-person work, including core requirements, electives, and at least 60 credit hours that are directly spent working on research. The research requirement helps ensure that the student will be well positioned to advance veterinary biomedical science in the future.

In addition to coursework, students will have the opportunity to work alongside faculty members who are pursuing research, and will be able to work in laboratories and research facilities throughout their time in the program.
