Jackson State Community College’s ambulance simulator debuts at West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Parade

The ambulance simulator is one of the newest additions to the college’s School of Healthcare Professions.

Jackson State Community College’s School of Healthcare Professions has unveiled its new ambulance simulator that will give students in the EMT-Paramedic program at the college’s regional campus access to new equipment that looks and feels just like a real working ambulance. The ambulance simulator made its debut at the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Parade, where it was pulled by a JSCC Police Department truck.

According to an article on Jackson State Community College’s website, Kenneth Oxford, who serves as the college’s EMT/Paramedic Program Director, was quoted as saying of the benefits of this new piece of equipment, “This simulator is as good as it gets. Students are going to get hands-on experience using this simulator, preparing them for just about any scenario they will see during their clinicals and then after graduation. We recently added a cadaver lab to our arsenal of hands-on learning, and with this addition, I can confidently say we’re preparing our students for the workforce more than ever before.”

Jackson State Community College’s main campus already has an ambulance simulator inside of a classroom, but the addition of this mobile ambulance simulator will provide greater access to students who are studying at the college’s Lexington, Savannah, and Gibson County locations. Students at these locations will now no longer have to drive to Jackson in order to receive ambulance simulation training. The simulator will give students the opportunity to practice skills they will need in high-stress situations in their future EMT and paramedic careers.

The college received the simulator at the beginning of 2025 from a specialty manufacturer in Texas and it has already been seen out and about at community events, like career days at local middle schools and high schools.
