The agreement will give Oakland Community College students with an associate in science degree the ability to transfer to Oakland University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Oakland Community College and Oakland University have expanded upon their existing articulation agreements by adding a transfer pathway for students to pursue a four-year degree in biology. The agreement will allow for Oakland Community College students who have earned an associate of science to transfer to Oakland University to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in as few as three semesters. The agreement will last through August 31, 2029.
According to an article on Oakland Community College’s website, Jennifer Berne, Ph. D., who serves as provost at the college, was quoted as saying, “This marks another milestone in our great partnership with Oakland University and we never take this relationship for granted. Our collaboration ensures smooth and successful transitions for our associate degree graduates to bachelor’s degree programs that are held close to our campuses. That’s very powerful for our students.”
The articulation agreement provides for students to be able to seamlessly transfer their credits from the college to the university so they can complete their education in as short a time as possible.
Elaine K. Carey, Ph.D., who serves as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oakland University, said of the details, “Students who fulfill the requirements of the articulation agreement will only need to complete 48 credits at OU to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and can complete their coursework in as little as three semesters. Remaining credits outside of the biology mandatory class requirements will consist of electives so that students can pursue their personal interests in a number of different areas.”
In addition to the transfer of credits, students who transfer from the college to the university will be able to take advantage of additional opportunities, like participating in research and lab exercises in various science specialties, a peer mentorship program, and student organizations.
