In addition to the establishment of the fund, an event was also held to dedicate a new porch on campus to Brandon Robinson, a Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College graduate and WYMT chief forecaster.
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College recently held an event to honor alumnus Brandon Robinson with the dedication of the new Brandon Robinson Porch and to celebrate the establishment of the Brandon Robinson Communication Fund. Established by the Southeast Education Foundation, the Brandon Robinson Communication Fund will support and help develop the school’s Frazier Broadcast Center, which Robinson had a hand in creating.
According to an article on Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. Patsy Jackson, who is serving as the school’s interim president and CEO, was quoted as saying at the Brandon Robinson Porch dedication ceremony on April 17, “Just as a porch shelters us from rain, snow, and sun, Brandon has stood between us and the storm, helping our community prepare, stay safe, and come together. This space is a place where people naturally gather—we share stories and we build connections here. It is a very fitting tribute to Brandon, whose life’s work has been to stand at the front, like a porch, offering protection, safety, and community.”
Robinson is a graduate of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and was also a staff member of the college for some time. During his time at the college, he had a positive impact on the broadcast program, SETV, and public relations. He also helped shape the Frazier Broadcast Center at the college. After leaving Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, he went on to become the WYMT chief forecaster.
Neil Middleton, Robinson’s colleague at WYMT, helped establish the Brandon Robinson Communication Fund by providing the fund’s inaugural gift alongside his wife Stephanie. Middleton said, “Stephanie and I appreciate the opportunity to honor our friend and to sow seeds back into Harlan County, where our Eastern Kentucky roots were first planted. Harlan County will always be home and holds a special place in our hearts. We invite others who want to give in Brandon’s honor to join us in this effort.”
