Indiana University South Bend and School City of Mishawaka form seamless admissions partnership

The newly signed agreement will provide a seamless admissions experience for qualified high school seniors within the district, meaning they will not need to fill out a traditional college application but rather a short form to apply to the university.

Indiana University South Bend and School City of Mishawaka have formed a partnership for a seamless admissions experience for qualified high school seniors within the district. The partnership will eliminate the need for filling out a lengthy traditional college application, providing these students with a short online form instead, shortening and simplifying the application experience with Indiana University South Bend.

According to an article on Indiana University South Bend’s website, Interim Deputy Chancellor Andy Williams was quoted as saying of the decision to create the new partnership, “We want to do whatever we can to simplify the admission process at IU South Bend. Our goal is to make college education more accessible, enabling students to earn a distinguished IU degree at an affordable cost while ensuring they receive the support to succeed during their college careers so we can help build a new generation of leaders for our community.”

High school seniors who qualify for the seamless admissions experience will forgo the traditional college application and instead fill out a simple online form for consideration for admission to Indiana University South Bend. Their form will be considered along with their academic portfolio to determine if they are accepted into the university. By eliminating the long and sometimes intimidating traditional college application, the partnership is also helping to eliminate some of the barriers that may keep students from continuing their education.

Chad Brugh, the principal of Mishawaka High School, said, “We are thrilled to begin this new partnership between Mishawaka High School and Indiana University South Bend, which allows our students to bypass the traditional application process. This agreement is a significant step forward for our students, offering them a streamlined path to higher education and new opportunities for success.”

In addition to the streamlined admissions process making for a simpler experience for high schoolers to apply to the university, it is also helping to create a pipeline of college educated individuals who are staying in the region to work after college graduation, as Indiana University South Bend reports that 65% of their graduates do. This will help bolster the region’s workforce with qualified and educated employees in a number of local and regional industries.

Jill Pearon, the university’s Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said, “This partnership with School City of Mishawaka represents one way we can eliminate barriers to higher education. With this simplified application process, we are recognizing the hard work of these high school students and reinforcing our commitment to their success.”
