West Virginia University Parkersburg announces new Radiology Technology program

The program will be available beginning in May 2025. The accelerated program will take 16 months to complete.

West Virginia University Parkersburg is introducing a new Radiology Technology program, which will be offered in an accelerated 16-month format, that will provide students with classroom and clinical experiences to prepare them to work alongside other healthcare professionals to help diagnose patients with the use of diagnostic imaging.

According to an article on West Virginia University Parkersburg’s website, Erin Martin, who serves as the Director of Radiology Technology at WVU Parkersburg, was quoted as saying of her own experience, which she draws upon as she helps develop the new program, “I knew I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives through healthcare, and radiology offered the perfect opportunity to do so. Now, as I teach and train future radiologic technologists, it feels like a dream come true to be combining my love for education and healthcare.”

Martin has 12 years of experience working at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, which is where students who hope to join the Radiology Technology program must complete a job shadowing session before they can be admitted to the program. Students must also receive a 75 or higher on the HESI entrance exam, have a minimum of 2.0 GPA, and complete Biology 109 to be eligible for the program.

The new program will give students the opportunity to work in various clinical settings and experience a number of healthcare scenarios, including trauma situations and routine examinations. Students will learn the skills necessary to help diagnose patients through imaging.
