The Partners in Peace initiative is a collaboration between the National Collegiate Honors Council and the Nobel Peace Center.
Ball State University has been named a member of the new Partners in Peace initiative, a collaborative program between the National Collegiate Honors Council and the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway. The Partners in Peace program, according to its website, “enables students, faculty and institutions to study and implement practices utilized by Nobel Peace Laureates in their attempts to achieve harmony and collaboration between individuals.”
According to an article on Ball State University’s website, Dr. James Buss, who serves as the dean of Ball State University’s Honors College, was quoted as saying of the university’s inclusion in the inaugural Partners in Peace cohort, This recognition represents something more than the Honors College’s relationship with the Nobel Peace Center. As a Partner in Peace, all students and faculty at Ball State will benefit from opportunities to engage with our international partners and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. Dr. Robin Blom has been instrumental in developing coursework and programming to advance the study of global peace in the Honors College, but we hope that this new designation for Ball State encourages more faculty, staff, and students to explore the study of peace in the 21st century.”
Along with Ball State University, 15 other institutions were named as members of the inaugural cohort of the Partners in Peace initiative, including Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, California State University, Columbia College, Elmhurst University, Georgia State University, Hutchinson Community College, Oregon Institute of Technology, San Jacinto College, Shippensburg University, Stockton University, The Citadel, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Central Arkansas, Western Carolina University, and Wichita State University.
To become a member of Partners in Peace, institutions must apply and submit their curricular or co-curricular projects that honor the visions of Nobel laureates and their quests for peace between people and communities. The project submitted by Ball State University was entitled The Honors of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Eddie Weller, who serves as the president of the National Collegiate Honors Council, was quoted as saying of the program, “NCHC is deeply honored to collaborate with the Nobel Peace Center and these institutions. This monumental program enables colleges and universities to offer transformative courses and activities that impact not only student lives but also their surrounding communities. By drawing inspiration from Nobel Peace Prize laureates, these projects encourage our students to embrace peace and act as change-makers for their generation. Can there be a higher calling than peace? I think not.”
