The fully online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will take 16 months to complete. Classes begin in the Spring 2025 semester.
Wittenberg University is launching its new online accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program following its recent approval from the Ohio Board of Nursing. The program is designed for individuals who already have a non-nursing bachelor degree who are seeking to change careers to become a nurse. The program will take 16 months to complete and classes begin with the Spring 2025 semester.
According to an article on Wittenberg University’s website, Marie Bashaw, who is a professor and the university’s director of nursing, explained the schedule of the program as well as the benefits of an accelerated program. She is quoted as saying, “What we normally teach in three years is done in 16 months for this program. It will be taught for 16-straight months from January to May and follow the degree progression building on previous courses. It will align with the current clinicals that are already in place here at Wittenberg. Enrollment is beginning for January of 2025, and we anticipate a strong enrollment for this program.”
Bashaw continued, “Offering a blend of interactive online coursework and hands-on clinical experiences, this program allows students to pursue their nursing education without compromising their current commitments. With asynchronous learning modules, students can study at their own pace and engage with course materials when it suits them best, whether that's early morning or late at night. This flexibility enables individuals to balance their professional, personal, and academic responsibilities while working toward their goal of becoming skilled, compassionate nurses.”
In order to be admitted to the program, students must have already obtained a bachelor degree of some kind and must have completed four prerequisite courses: anatomy and physiology, chemistry, microbiology, and statistics. While making program admission decisions, the Department of Nursing takes into account life experience and the variety of education students may be bringing with them to the program.
The accelerated nature of the program is intended to help individuals seeking a career change get into the nursing field quickly.
Speaking of the quality of the nursing programs offered by Wittenberg, Bashaw said, “Wittenberg’s nursing faculty are committed to nurturing a supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally. By fostering strong relationships and sharing their enthusiasm for the nursing profession, Wittenberg's faculty inspire and empower students to excel and make meaningful contributions to healthcare.”
