The Kirtland Community College Board of Trustees designated the donation for the Legacy Fund to continue providing scholarships for students in financial need.
Kirtland Community College's Kirtland Foundation Legacy Fund has been given a $50,000 endowment by the College’s Board of Trustees in order to continue its mission of easing the financial burdens of a college education. The Legacy Fund was designed to offer matching donations for any new endowments secured by the Kirtland Foundation.
According to an article on Kirtland Community College’s website, Heather Appold, the director of the Kirtland Foundation, was quoted as saying, “The Kirtland Legacy Fund has allowed the Foundation to grow its endowments, providing more funding for scholarships. This allows us to impact more students on their educational journey and help them reach their goals. Since the Legacy fund started in 2022, 14 new endowments have been established. It’s exciting to see how many in our community have a passion for transforming the lives of Kirtland students through scholarship support.”
Kirtland Community College’s Roscommon campus was sold and the Board of Trustees decided to give $50,000 from the proceeds of the sale to the Legacy Fund in order to ensure the availability of scholarship funds for future students in need of financial assistance. The Legacy Fund was established in 2022 and is designed so that the fund will match every $10,000 with another $5,000. The idea of the matching is to encourage more donors to create more endowments, as their donation will go even further to create a lasting legacy by ensuring more scholarships for more students.
Appold said, “The Kirtland Legacy Fund is a testament that the Board of Trustees believes in the Foundation and the work we do to support our students. Having these funds allows us to share with donors that we are grateful for the money they are trusting us to invest and we provide a match to make their investment go even further. The Kirtland Foundation is excited for the potential to speak with others in our communities who have a passion for helping students in higher education and want to provide an investment in their futures.”
