After a long career supporting the local community and Davis & Elkins College in largely athletic roles, Amrit Rayfield has a new position at his alma mater as the Director of Philanthropy.

Davis & Elkins College has recently announced that Amrit Rayfield will be joining the school’s staff as the new Director of Philanthropy. Rayfield graduated from D&E back in 1997, and has long been a contributing member to not only the College, but also the local community.

Born in Crisfield, Maryland, Rayfleld earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Davis & Elkins College. He then went on to graduate school at West Virginia University and Hood College where he would go on to obtain his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology in 1999 and his Master of Arts in Education Leadership in 2014.

In an article on Davis & Elkins’ website, Rayfield was quoted on his new appointment, saying, “I am extremely excited to re-join the Davis & Elkins College community. As a graduate and in my role as the Director of Philanthropy, I look forward to connecting and reconnecting with alumni and friends of D&E and sharing our stories, experiences, and passion for our institution. I am grateful for this opportunity to be back “home” and assist in providing the resources necessary to prepare our current students, faculty, and staff for success now and in the future.”

Rayfield has served as an assistant coach and head coach at Davis & Elkins College, and has an athletic resume that includes highlights such as being a four year starter and senior captain on the NCAA Division II men’s basketball team. He is also among a small number of athletes at the school who can say that they have scored at least 1,000 points, and was named the WVIAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and WVIAC Scholar Athlete - Men’s Basketball for the 1996-1997 season. While serving as a coach for both the Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams at D&E, he played an important role in the coaching and mentoring of nine different All-conference players.

Scott Goddard, who serves as the Vice President for Advancement, was also quoted on Rayfield’s appointment, saying, “We are thrilled to announce Amrit Rayfield as our new Director of Philanthropy at Davis & Elkins College. As a fellow alumnus, Amrit brings a personal connection to our mission and a profound understanding of our values. His dedication and expertise will be instrumental in advancing our philanthropic goals and strengthening our college community. I look forward to working alongside him as we build on our shared commitment to D&E’s future.”

Rayfield has already been seen to be a positive force in the lives of not just D&E students, but students all over the region, having served prior to this appointment as Assistant Principal of Elkins High School for a decade. During over half of that decade, he was also serving as the head coach for the EHS Boys’ Basketball team. In addition he has also been very involved in a number of boards and committees representing D&E and the Elkins community. He has also served as a member and the chair of the East and Atlantic region NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Regional Advisory Committee.
